By Neal Robinson:
Coast FA played their second game of the day against the Congaree Rapid Red. Congaree had some good height and size on the team and played it to the best of their advantage. The game started out at a slow pace and Coast FA had a lot of possession in the first half with a number of opportunities that should have reached the back of the net. The teams went into half- time at 0-0. Coast FA came out in the second half with some more urgency, but failed to turn it into a goal. Congaree had been playing a long-ball approach for most of the game and it ultimately paid off midway into the second half. With the ever-steady Chris Rice (Coast FA) pushed up into a midfield position, a punt from the Congaree keeper floated to the half-way line and bounced over a stagnant defensive line without an interception. The ball bounced on towards goal in the path of a lone Congaree forward. Attempts to tackle the striker made by recovering Coast FA players failed and the Rapids player was able to slip it past the approaching Coast FA keeper. Coast FA jolted by the conceded goal applied more pressure to the Congaree goal, but could not convert. In a post-game press conference Coach Robinson was left scratching his sun-burned head. "We got taught two big lessons today. The first game we struggled for possession, the second game, we had too much of it. I have to praise Congaree, they had a chance and they took it - we didn't do that today. I think we had 12 decent shots on goal, the only thing my keeper had to do was retrieve the ball out of his goal after they scored. We must convert our chances - a goal changes the dynmaics of a game. It was a hot day and we got tired, but will still created chances we needed to score." Notable performances Robinson credited to Kelsey Brady and Max Huggins. "Both Brady and Huggins are big boys, they wouldn't look out of place with U15's. This was a kind of game that suits their physique. Brady has improved well this season - his direct approach helped clear the ball from some dangerous situations this afternoon. He made some great tackles also. Huggins gave me a lot of effort(especially in the second-half). He served in some great balls from out wide that we should have captalized on. He could have scored a couple as well, but their keeper did well to save." Robinson wrapped up by saying " we will hit the training field and get back to the basics. The boys will bounce back."
