 FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE

Rolling on to Sunday’s game CFA were still within a chance of qualifying for the final with a win against the first place team in the Sandlapper, the Florence Firebolts. Determined not to caught out by re-positioned road signs or slowed down by an old couple on a Sunday morning drive, the team arrived with enough time for a good warm-up and a chance to focus on the challenge ahead. The first 10-15 minutes proved to be the best performance of the weekend for CFA. Speed to the ball, determination to be first and a direct approach put Florence “on the ropes”. A rasper of a shot from Huggins left the keepers hands sizzling, Cuomo following up for the rebound, but somehow the keeper managed to recover and get the block. The Florence keeper also did well on one-on-one break-through that he somehow managed to stop without knowing it.Then on one of their few counter-attacks the Florence midfield were able to pick out Avery Ryan (leading scorer) with a diagonal ball. Without taking touch Ryan pivoted and shot to the far post. Greene not expecting the quick shot, tried to get down, but the ball skewed underneath him. Coast were still in the game and came back with a few chances, but were unable capitalize. Shortly, after Coast FA turned over possession on the left side, Florence capitalized on the space and pushed the ball down the field quickly, the Coast defense attempted to recover, however a Florence player beat everybody to the ball and struck it past the diving Greene on the front-post. Coast FA came out in the second with some fresh legs, that proved helpful in creating some chances to go close to grabbing a goal, but no-one could get a final touch. Florence also had some decent chances as CFA push forward and left space at the back. However, the exploits of substitute keeper Asllanaj and some great recovery work from Rice, Pecora and Brady at the back kept a clean sheet for the last 30 minutes. While being interviewed on the way over the watch the U11’s take on Lexington, Coach Robinson stated that he was very proud of his teams performance. “We didn’t win the games because we didn’t score enough goals – we can fix that” What is more important is that we hung in there and kept focused on the job at hand, that’s a sign that the team is growing stronger” “Everybody had a significant contribution in each game this weekend” Once we can make our chances count, we will start turning the games in our favor” “Decent weekends work overall – I am very happy with the lads”.
