By Neal Robinson:
Coast FA U12 Boys Black went into this game knowing that they had a formidable opponent in top ranked Florence Firebolts. The game kicked off at a high pace and Coast FA found themselves struggling to adjust and conceded two early goals in the first 20 minutes. Coach Robinson was quoted as saying "we gave them the start they (Firebolts) were looking for. When you concede early against good organized teams it is always a mountain to climb after that" Florence moved the ball efficiently up and down the field and were capable of switching the play from left to right very effectively. A number of substitutions in the first half helped tighten up the Coast FA defense, but by half-time Florence were leading 3-0. Coast FA came out in the second half with a more focused approach and held possession better. While pushing for that elusive goal, Coast FA allowed another one to slip by late on in the game. "The game was cetainly a lesson learned for us. We have to be ready for action from the first whistle to the last." Robinson stated in his post game comments. Robinson gave credit to sweeper Chris Rice. "We found ourselves defending in our penalty area an awful lot, if he (Rice) had not been there in the thick of things the deficit would have been a lot more." Another player Robinson praised was Josh "wheels" Winterhalder - "he gets all the hard jobs, if there is a hole, he is sent in to plug it up. I think he has played nearly every position on the park except in goal. He has a big heart for a wee- man!" Lastly, Robinson recognized that his starting keeper Sean Greene. "Sean had a wobbly start and was caught napping on a quick free-kick. I pulled him out to get his head on straight and he came back with a very decent performance in the second half. A keepers game is 75% mental and 25% physical, he is getting stronger with his mental game.
